First Grade was fortunate enough to be selected to receive an outdoor learning mini-grant from Maine Enviornmental Education Association. We decided to partner with our good friends at Maine Outdoor School to conduct a three part series learning about birds and finding more ways to draw in our feathered friends to our amazing nature trail.
We had our first session today focusing on food. Students were able to scavenge for bird food, using different types of “beaks” and practice using binoculars for when we have birdwatching to do. We also created some environmentally friendly bird feeders to hang on the trees outside our classroom window. Maybe in the next few days we will catch a peak at a few friends enjoying their treats.
